The tree is on the strip between the road and the ditch, across from the large shelter S of the Pottery Studio. The Paperbark appreciates a lightly shaded site and regular moisture. The Acer griseum, aka Paperbark Maple, is one of our absolute favorites It is native to central Asia with gorgeous exfoliating bark and fall leaf colors. Paperbark Maple will grow to be about 30 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 25 feet. Bryan Street between Oak Street and City Park Drive. Description: This small ornamental tree is renowned for its exfoliating (peeling) bark in cinnamon red, pink and tan, along wth good fall color an extremely high value accent tree for the winter landscape. Leaves against the cinnamon colored bark of Acer grissomÄue to its distinctively colored bark, this tree is identifiable and showy even in winter. Most merely state it is lovely to look at in the garden. Although the tree was introduced into Europe in the early 1900s, little seems to be written about any uses of the leaves, bark, or lumber. Although the trees are available from nurseries and grow in zones 4-8, their primary use is ornamental. Climate Zones, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21.
